The final season of “Homeland” is on the horizon, and Carrie Mathison is looking for “payback.”
Friday brought a new trailer for the upcoming season, with Carrie (Claire Danes) none too happy about the tortuous months she spent in a Russian gulag.
Even though her mentor Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and his CIA cohorts suspect she may have been brainwashed into becoming a Russian mole, when Saul is tasked by the president (Beau Bridges) to end the war in Afghanistan and negotiate with the Taliban, there’s only one person he can turn to for help — even is she may or may not be covertly working for the Russians.
“The final season of ‘Homeland’ finds Carrie Mathison (Danes) recovering from months of brutal confinement in a Russian gulag,” reads the official synopsis for the eighth and final season. “Her body is healing, but her memory remains fractured — which is a problem for Saul (Patinkin), now National Security Advisor to the newly ascendant President Warner (Bridges). The top priority of Warner’s young administration is an end to the ‘forever war’ in Afghanistan, and Saul has been dispatched to engage the Taliban in peace negotiations. But Kabul teems with warlords and mercenaries, zealots and spies — and Saul needs the relationships and expertise that only his protégé can provide. Against medical advice, Saul asks Carrie to walk with him into the lion’s den — one last time.”
Also appearing are Maury Sterling, Linus Roache and Costa Ronin, while Nimrat Kaur and Numan Acar will reprise their roles from the fourth season.
The eighth and final season of “Homeland” begins on Feb. 8.
