Paul McCartney is bringing High in the Clouds to Netflix.
The Beatles legend is turning his 2005 children’s book, which he wrote with Philip Ardagh, into an animated movie for the streaming service. “High in the Clouds” tells the tale of a teenage squirrel named Wirral.
The squirrel “finds himself pulled into a ramshackle gang of teenage rebels who live high in the clouds,” per a statement. “After he accidentally antagonizes Gretsch the owl, the tyrannical leader (and fabulous singer!), who steals the voice of anyone who upstages her.”
McCartney will also work with major French film studio Gaumont Film Company. Gaumont was founded by inventor Léon Gaumont in 1895.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Netflix,” McCartney said. “They complement what is already an amazing team with Gaumont and we can think of no one better to be working with to bring our film to a global audience.”
“I’ve always loved animated films and this is a hugely important passion project for me,” he continued. “I can’t wait for the world to see it.”
McCartney is teaming up with some heavy hitters for the new Netflix film. Oscar nominee Timothy Reckart (“Head Over Heels”) will direct and Jon Croker (“Paddington 2”) will write the script.
