Three months after tying the knot in Mexico, Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay is excitedly preparing for her first Christmas with Bryan Abasolo as her husband.
The two found love on season 13 of “The Bachelorette” in 2017 and while Lindsay teases this might be their last Christmas without children, for now she’s relishing her first holiday season with the man she’s still getting a kick out of calling her “husband.”
“That’s my thing this year – it’s our first Christmas as the Abasolos!” the 34-year-old sports broadcaster tells ET Canada. “It’s our first [holiday season] in Miami and our first Christmas as a married couple, so I’ve really gotten into decorating our apartment. I bought stockings, a Christmas tree and went shopping with Bryan’s mom to decorate, so I’m very excited!”
“I spent the last two Christmases with Bryan and his family [in Miami], so this year we’ll be in Dallas and wake up to a big Christmas brunch, open gifts, then just enjoy the day,” she adds.
Lindsay has fond memories of her childhood Christmases in Dallas, Texas, admitting she misses the days when Santa was “still in the picture” and would leave her most-wanted gifts at the fireplace. Her most memorable present was an American Girl doll.
“Addy was the one I could relate to most, so I really wanted an Addy doll and my parents tricked me and left it in a different room,” she recalls. “I was so devastated! Then I [found] it. They even bought me a dress that matched hers.”
While these days, the holidays are all about family time rather than presents for Lindsay, there is one “gift” she is hilariously giving Abasolo – silky smooth legs!
Lindsay recently faced her fear of the pain and braved the laser hair removal she has wanted for years at Florida’s Ideal Image MedSpa. “I joke that it’s a gift to Bryan because I hate to shave,” laughs the media personality, who also gets oxygen hydra facials to stay glowing for the holiday season. “I’m the worst. I had heard about the pain, so Bryan filmed it because he thought it was going to be exciting for him with me freaking out, but I didn’t. It was painless.”
So, what does Abasolo think about his already-gorgeous wife undergoing beauty treatments? “Bryan ended up getting his own laser hair removal, on his upper back. That’s what he thought about it!” Lindsay shares. “Then he goes, ‘Hey, do we have time for me to get a facial?’”
While undergoing hair removal and facials together may be a quirky new part of their relationship as newlyweds, Lindsay says not much else has changed between the two now they’re married.
“It’s a little weird to say ‘husband’ and ‘wife,’ and we love that aspect – I love saying ‘husband’! But as far as how we function, nothing’s changed,” she says. “We’ve been living together for two years and we’d been in counselling to make sure we had that solid foundation going into the marriage, so we really took all the steps to [feel] right before I walked down that aisle to him.”
Naturally, babies are the next big step on their minds and Lindsay says next December could mark another festive first: their first Christmas as parents!
“We’ve talked about next year,” she dishes. “But we always joke that there’s no good time. Even if we plan it, something will pop up, but next year is when we plan on starting to try.”
And, when they do start their own family, Lindsay hopes to combine their respective childhood traditions when it comes to the holiday season.
“When we have kids, things will change dramatically, but what’s fun is that Bryan grew up celebrating Christmas Eve and I grew up celebrating Christmas Day, so we want to combine that,” she says. “We’ve talked a little about how – whether it’s opening one gift on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas Day. And, at the moment, we rotate with Miami and Dallas, but I want to eventually bring our family to wherever we are and host Christmas.”
