Awkwafina awoke to some big excitement on Monday when the Golden Globe nominations were announced and she found herself among the nominees, landing a nod for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for “The Farewell”.
The actress/comedian dropped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday night and revealed that she was blissfully unaware of her nomination because she was fast asleep when the announcement came.
“I had Korean barbecue the night before and it was very rich, so I fell asleep,” she told Kimmel. “I woke up and I saw, like, a flurry of messages kind of as I was waking up and I was like, ‘Someone died.'”

The text messages were far more celebratory than that, coming from friends and family congratulating her on the nomination she didn’t even realize she’d received.
In fact, Awkwafina showed Kimmel some texts from a group chat called “Awkwafina Fan Club” that was full of the typical excited messages that would be expected for such an occasion — except for one.
That particular text came from Awkwafina’s Aunt Linda, who had something far more pressing on her mind than the Golden Globes.

“My Aunt Linda is a little bit of a nut,” she told Kimmel, who agreed that “there’s always an Aunt Linda and she’s always a nut,” before reading Linda’s text.
“Seriously fam, curb yourself of gluten, grains and beans,” Linda wrote to the group. “Read up on lectin and how it poisons your body over time. And we all need to try intermittent fasting. Do the 16 hour fast and try to eat 1 meal a day. Or day every other day.”
The text concluded: “And cut out corn and soy even the organic kind. The seeds are all gmo.”
We’ll find out if Awkwafina winds up taking home a statue when the Golden Globe Awards airs on Sunday, Jan. 5.
