While Scarlett Johansson took to the “Saturday Night Live” stage to host for the sixth time over the weekend, Niall Horan made his first ever appearance as a solo artist, and delivered two impressive performances.
Horan hit the stage for the first time, decked out in a pink suit and a white undershirt, for a fun, upbeat performance of his new song, “Nice To Meet Ya.”
Rocking a guitar and performing with a backing band and some simple stage design, the former One Direction singer treated his fans to a taste from his upcoming sophomore solo album — his follow-up to 2017’s Flicker.
Later in the episode, Horan took the stage again for a much more subdued and emotional performance of his new song “Put a Little Love On Me”.
Ditching the light pink and white Miami-in-the-’80s vibe from his first set, Horan donned a simple black jacket with dark brown slacks and white shirt for this vocal showcase.
Meanwhile, Horan also dropped in for a sketch with Johansson and Cecily Strong. The three played a trio of sleazy ghosts who died in a hot tub accident in the early 1970s, and now haunt that very hot tub.
Horan, who plays a cigarette smoking, sideburns-rocking dude named Big Jim, sings about his fate, along with Johansson and Strong, in a bizarrely funny musical sketch that was a good match for Horan’s personality.
Meanwhile, the singer’s appearance on “SNL” comes three episodes after his former bandmate, Harry Styles, pulled double duty as the host and musical guest for one of the best episodes of the season thus far.
