On Monday evening, fans gathered in front of their computers and phones to watch the livestream of the world premiere red carpet for “Cats”.
The film has released trailers and teasers for the adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway masterpiece but director Tom Hooper revealed that he only just finished editing the movie in time for the Monday showing.

“I finished it at 8am yesterday after 36 hours in a row of putting finishing touches on, so I’m very happy to be here with it fully finished and we’ll let the audience decide. I think we’ve come a long way since our first trailer,” Hooper told Variety on the red carpet.
Many years ago, no one would watch the movie until the premiere. However now, most stars want to see the film before the rest of the world, but this is one of those rare times that everyone will be seeing it for the first time together.

“Premieres should be the first time people get to see it and this is genuinely a premiere,” he added.
A few days later, it was reported that an updated cut of the film, with “improved visual effects” was being sent to theatres, indicating Cooper’s tinkering with the movie hadn’t stopped after the premiere.
“Cats” is in theatres now.
