“American Idol” is about to return for its third reboot season, with host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan all returning.
Judging by a new trailer for the upcoming season that dropped on Wednesday, fans of the TV singing competition can expect plenty of drama, both onstage and behind the judging table.
“We’re trying to be a little more frank, a little more real,” says Luke Bryan in the clip, while also declaring that one contestant “might be the biggest star we’ve ever had on ‘American Idol’.”

In another scene, Perry is seen gushing about a singer’s performance. “She is our Kelly Clarkson,” declares the “Roar” singer, only to be shut down by Bryan, who insists that “it’s a no for me.”
Perry is not happy, so much so that she flips her glass of water on the floor, jumps to her feet and storms off while wailing at the top of her lungs.
“We are here to create the next future superstar,” says Perry (presumably after she calmed down) at the video’s end.
