Grammy-nominated country singer Ashley McBryde has just dropped the music video for her current single “One Night Standards”.

Filmed at Nashville’s Drake Hotel, the three-minute clip sees McBryde play a motel clerk working the front desk. When she sees a familiar man pull up to the hotel with an unfamiliar woman, she phones her friend to tell her, “It’s your dad. He’s about to make a mistake.”

As the story unfolds, McBryde’s friend bursts into the hotel room to find her father in bed with another woman. As her father quickly escapes out of the room, his daughter holds a shovel over the woman. The mistress ends up in a body bag and McBryde helps her friend in putting the corpse into the trunk of her car.

“My manager John Peets and I had this idea to listen to the record and see what stories appeared…what threads of ideas were consistent in the songs we had gathered and what characters stood out,” shares the singer in a statement. “Lo and behold, one night on the bus Chris Harris and I were having a few beverages after a show. I got out my sketch pad and we wrote down each song from the record and each character. It looked like a crazy road map. It looked like a child had drawn it.”

“But there it was,” she continues. “A way to connect every song and every video. I showed it to Peets, and we put it in [director] Reid Long’s hands. And the rest is history.”

The new video is the first of a three-part storyline that will be released over the upcoming weeks as the singer prepares her highly anticipated sophomore album.

Not only is McBryde nominated for three Grammy Awards, she will also embark on her second headlining tour, kicking off January 30 in Birmingham, Alabama.
