Lupita Nyong’o just pulled off the sweetest surprise.
On Friday, the actress took to Twitter to talk about the heartwarming moment where she snuck up on a group of young performers at the Renaissance Youth Center in the Bronx.

“Pulling off a surprise if my favourite kind of holiday cheer,” she wrote.
The group, called Music With a Message, got to perform a song Nyong’o wrote for her book, Sulwe. The song, titled “Sulwe’s Song”, and the book are about a young, dark-skinned girl learning to accept herself. While the group did not know the “Black Panther” star was coming, they did know they were being filmed for a video on her YouTube channel.
“There’s tons of colours in the world and while I wanted Sulwe to be about a dark-skinned girl who accepts herself, it doesn’t mean that she rejects someone who’s lighter skinned than her,” Nyong’o says.

Nyong’o was of course welcomed with lots of hugs and tears, some even thanking her for talking about the topic.
“I love that book because I used to get bullied a lot and I didn’t like my skin colour at that time,” one of the performers said. “Dark skin is beautiful no matter what.”
“There has to be balance in this world. There’s room for super light skin and there’s room for dark skin,” Nyong’o responded as she was brought to tears by the performance.
