Taron Egerton got to know Elton John pretty well after being cast as the music legend in the hit biopic, “Rocketman”.
In an interview with People magazine, the actor opened up about which of John’s qualities surprised him the most.
“There’s a lovely quality of vulnerability that he has,” Egerton said. “Sometimes, even now, he can be uncertain of himself, even with all of that massive success and all of those accolades, all that universal acclaim.”
Egerton added that the “Candle in the Wind” singer can seem both confident and shy at the same time.
“It’s a weird kind of duality.”
Despite this, it was John’s opinion that mattered to him the most when he was auditioning for the role. Luckily, John was already of fan of Egerton’s.
“He knew I could sing, but he hadn’t heard me,” Egerton said, also mentioning the time the pair went to Abbey Road studios together to test a few songs. “It was off to the races from there.”
The actor rose to fame in 2014 when he starred in “Kingsmen: The Secret Service”. Now, he is nominated for a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of Elton John.
“It feels like something that happens to other people. It’s very surreal, but I’m very very pleased to be part of it.”
