Wendy of the K-Pop group Red Velvet is out of commission for six weeks after suffering serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Wendy was transported to the hospital after suffering a terrifying fall during a soundcheck at the SBS Gayo Daejeon televised music festival in South Korea. The accident occurred on Dec. 25 and left Wendy with two broken bones, a cracked bone, and other minor injuries.
“Wendy climbed to the second-floor tunnel, as scripted,” a staff member said of the soundcheck, per All KPop. “She was prepared to go down the stairs during the song. But the stairs were not set in place. At that moment, she lost her balance and fell down the stage.”
“The second-floor tunnel was dark and cramped,” the staff member continued. “The stairs were not ready. Not even the common (fluorescent) marking was visible so that was how she fell below 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) in such a defenceless state.”
The staff member added that “news of the incident had spread” among other performers and everyone had “heightened anxiety.”
Wendy will require approximately six weeks of healing time. She broke her right pelvis and wrist, cracked her cheekbone, and suffered numerous bruises around her body.
