The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have filed to trademark “Sussex Royal”.

Prince Harry and Meghan will be announcing their own foundation after breaking away from the royal family in the Spring, but they might not even be able to use the name.

The trademark does cover a number of areas including printed matter, clothing, dresses, pyjamas, bookmarks and gloves, and in the wake of Harry and Meghan stepping down from the royal family, what the couple will use the name for is still up in the air.

The trademark could just cover themselves from other companies trying to sell a product with their name on it. Prince William and Kate Middleton have done the same as have most celebrities.

However, talks at the palace are still being held if the two will be able to continue to use Sussex Royal for their social media and other endeavours.

And after the application was published, an Australian doctor filed a complaint.

A formal “notice of threatened opposition” was registered Government’s Intellectual Property Office on Tuesday by Benjamin Worcester of Victoria, Australia. He studied medicine at University College London before working as a doctor in London between 2011 and 2014. The reason he filed the opposition is unknown.

The period of opposition against the trademark runs until March 20.
