Sir David Attenborough Praises Greta Thunberg, Pair Meet For The First Time To Discuss Climate Change

By Becca Longmire.

Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough finally met — albeit only via Skype — Monday.

The 16-year-old climate activist and the 93-year-old natural historian chatted about the good work the teen has been doing on BBC Radio 4 Today.

Attenborough explained, “She’s achieved things that many of us who have been working on it for 20-odd years have failed to achieve. That is, you have aroused the world. I’m very grateful to you. We all are, really.”

“I think everyone is grateful for you, for taking on the climate crisis and on the environmental crisis,” Thunberg replied. “I hope you understand how much difference you have made and that we are all very thankful for that. So thank you. And thank you for dedicating your life to this. It’s very inspiring.”

Thunberg, who has led a four-million-strong climate change march among other things, added that Attenborough was the main reason she became so passionate about climate change.

“When I was younger, documentaries about the natural world and what was happening, what was going on, that was what made me decide to do something about it.”

Attenborough also explained how the generations were coming together to work on the issue, citing the mantra: “The world belongs to not my generation but to your generation; the world belongs to young people.”
