In early October, Jane Fonda was arrested in Washington, D.C. while protesting the U.S. government’s inaction in combatting climate change at her first “Fire Drill Friday” protest, vowing to return to Capitol Hill each Friday and face arrest every time.
The 82-year-old Oscar winner has been true to her word, continuing to be arrested each Friday alongside a rotating roster of celebrity pals.
Last Friday, Fonda’s “Grace and Frankie” co-star Lily Tomlin found herself under arrest while Fonda, for a change, did not.
In a new profile for the New York Times Magazine.. Tomlin, 80, praised her longtime co-star, whom she first worked with in 1980’s “9 to 5″.
“I support Jane,” said Tomlin, telling the magazine that Fonda’s commitment to her “Fire Drill Fridays” events is so serious that she once asked if production on “Grace and Frankie” could be halted so she could protest. “Jane is a real toughie.”
During a recent Paleyfest Q&A in honour of the upcoming season of “Grace and Frankie”, Tomlin and Fonda discussed the possibility of reuniting with Dolly Parton for the long-gestating sequel to “9 to 5”.
“We’re waiting for the script,” explained Fonda.
“Everybody is very hopeful,” added Tomlin. “We may not live to see it.”
