Rod Stewart and his son, Sean Stewart, have been ordered to appear in court over an altercation that took place on New Year’s Eve.
The legendary artist, 74, and his son, 39, were involved in an altercation in Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday. The two musicians are being accused by police of simple battery, according to an affidavit obtained by People.
The Stewarts have been requested to appear at the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Complex on Feb. 5.
Rod and Sean were with a group of people and allegedly became “agitated” after being denied access to a private event being held at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach.
“The group began to get loud and cause a scene, and refused to follow… instructions to leave,” the affidavit explained. Sean then allegedly shoved a security guard and Rod followed up by punching in the “left ribcage area.”
“It was a brief misunderstanding and neither Rod nor Sean were detained,” a source told People. “Apologies were exchanged and there were no injuries.” A second source added, “They were being loud and disruptive all night… It was like a frat party.”
Rod and Sean have yet to publicly acknowledge the situation, although ET Canada has reached out to Stewart’s rep.
