Not that anyone was surprised, but the 2020 Golden Globe Awards host Ricky Gervais went for some edgy jokes during his opening monologue.
He started off welcoming the “mega talent” before quickly adding “most of you, some of you just married well. You know who you are, we all do.”

While talking about “Afterlife” he warned that “spoiler, in the end, he obviously didn’t kill himself, just like Jeffery Epstein.”
To which he added, “Shut up, I know he is your friend but I don’t care.”

Things then turned to “woke culture” and how many companies like Apple and Disney aren’t very “woke” so all the celebs who work for them can’t give a political speech if they win.
“Accept your award, thank your agent, thank God and f— off.”
Both Tim Cook and Tom Hanks, who were in the audience, visibly reacted.
And of course, there had to be a joke about Leonardo DiCaprio and his newest young girlfriend.
“‘Once Upon A Time In….Hollywood’, nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end, his date was too old,” Gervais quipped.
Other jabs throughout the speech included the Felicity Huffman’s prison sentence as part of the college bribery scandal: “I came here in a limo tonight and the license plate was made my Felicity Huffman.”
On Monday morning, Gervais tweeted his thanks to everyone who enjoyed the show, commenting that he “had a blast but thank f**k it’s over.”
