The next “Avatar” movie is going tropical.
On Monday evening, the franchise’s Twitter account gave fans their first official look at the new worlds of Pandora featured in the upcoming “Avatar 2”.
The concept art features the Na’vi characters from the original film traversing gorgeous tropical environments.
Originally intended for release in 2014, “Avatar 2” has been delayed multiple times in order to accommodate new technologies to fulfil director James Cameron’s vision for the sequels.
Speaking about sequels in December, Cameron said, “From 2013 until now we’ve mostly designed the whole world across four new movies.”
“We’ve written, finished scripts for all four of those films,” he continued. “We’ve cast them, and we’ve [performance] captured movie 2, movie 3, and the first part of movie 4. We’re mostly done with the live-action. I’ve got a couple months in New Zealand in the spring, so we’re kind of on track with what we set out to do…We’re kind of right on schedule for December 2021.”
“Avatar 2” is currently set for release Dec. 17, 2021, with three more sequels set for Dec. 2023, 2025 and 2027.
