Valerie Bertinelli is taking 2020 one day at a time.
The actress, and star of the Food Network’s “Valeries’ Home Cooking”, stopped by the “Today” show on Tuesday and discussed her mission for the new year, discovering what “true joy feels like.”
In a new documented series with the morning show, “Start TODAY With Valerie”, Bertinelli, 59, will share her weight loss journey and what she’s learned about a healthier mind-body outlook.
“When you’re busy taking care of other people you forget to take care of yourself,” Bertinelli said, referencing her parents who she lost in the last three years.
“I’m an everything’s fine girl and pretending everything’s okay,” she confessed. “I’ve been working so hard for so long since I was 12-years-old and doing what everybody wants me to do for so long. I just want to know what true joy feels like.”
Aside from losing a few pounds, the Hollywood star’s goal is to feel better about her life, “There’s a reason that I’ve gained weight and it’s emotional. This is just a symptom of how unhappy I’ve let myself feel and become. I’m not going to let any mistakes that I make in 2020 define me as a failure. I will find a different way to look at it.”
She added, “I want to not fake it until I make it anymore and I think a lot of people out there feel the same way I feel so, I thought, maybe, we can lean on each other.”
New episodes of Bertinelli’s “Valerie’s Home Cooking” airs Sundays at 12 p.m. ET on the Food Network.
