Oliver Peck is saying goodbye to “Ink Master” after 13 years as a judge on the TV tattoo competition, following the resurfacing of photos from his past in which he sports blackface.

The photos were published last week by TMZ, depicting Peck with his skin darkened, wearing a giant faux afro and a superhero costume with a giant “N” emblazoned on the chest.

“After filming 13 great seasons of ‘Ink Master’, the producers and I have decided it’s best to part ways,” Peck, 47, said in a statement Tuesday. “The offensive photos of me which recently surfaced from many years ago can only be a distraction to the amazing show I have loved being a part of and its many talented artists. I want to thank the show’s cast, crew, contestants and awesome fans. It’s been a blast and an honour and I wish my friends and colleagues the very best in whatever the future holds.”

Following the release of the photos last week, Peck — who was previously married to Kat Von D — issued an apology. “I want to profusely apologize for my completely inappropriate, insensitive, and immature behaviour,” Peck wrote in an Instagram post. “I hope that I’ve matured a great deal since then and I’m deeply sorry for everyone I’ve offended.”

In addition to Peck’s statement, on Tuesday Paramount Network issued a statement placing some distance between the network and the controversial tattoo artists.

“We, like many others, were appalled when we saw the photos of Oliver,” reads the network’s statement. “We were glad to see his apology and accept that he is taking full responsibility for the damaging impact of his actions.”

According to Deadline, the upcoming season has already been filmed, so production won’t be affected by Peck’s exit.
