Leave it to Amy Schumer to offer the perfect joke to poke fun at a regal announcement.

On Wednesday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their plans to “step back” from their royal duties, informing the world via Instagram of their intention to “step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent.”

In their announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reveal the decision “to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution” comes after “many months of reflection and internal discussions.”

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. Later that same day, Amy Schumer shared a similar announcement with her Instagram followers.

In a photo the 38-year-old comedian shared on social media, she’s sitting in a beach-friendly wheelchair equipped with giant tires while husband Chris Fischer pushes her.

“Chris and I are formally stepping down from our royal duties,” she jokes in the caption. “We appreciate your support.”
