Jane Fonda’s Fire Drill Fridays have continued to gain traction, and this week’s event protesting government inaction on climate change brought out some big stars — who showed up and got arrested.
On Friday, Fonda welcomed “Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix along with fellow actors Martin Sheen, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Susan Sarandon.
As TMZ reports, the actors joined Fonda to call for action to enact Green New Deal legislation, with this week’s crowd “among the largest we’ve seen” since Fonda launched her weekly protests at Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Fonda, Phoenix and Sheen all spoke to the crowd, with Phoenix urging those in attendance to help the environment by embracing a plant-based diet.
Video shows Phoenix being detained by police and led away after reportedly being placed under arrest. USA Today confirmed that Sheen was also detained by police during the protest.
