Kesha hit the stage of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Friday night, which happened to mark a sad milestone: the fourth anniversary of the 2016 death of David Bowie.

Ahead of her performance, Kesha sat down with host Stephen Colbert for a wide-ranging interview, with a glittery lightning bolt painted on her face, in the manner of Bowie’s classic Aladdin Sane album cover, in honour of the late rock icon.

During their chat, Kesha suggested, “in celebration of Bowie,” that she give Colbert a “super-fast” Bowie-inspired makeover. “I would love to paint on your face,” she told Colbert, who agreed.

As she began painting the host’s face, the show cut to commercial, with the completed face-painting on display when the show returned, with Colbert sporting a glittery pink design on his face.

He then introduced the singer, who was joined by Big Freedia for a Bowie-infused performance of their new single “Raising Hell”.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
