After winning the Best Picture honours at the Golden Globes, First World War drama “1917” has taken the top spot at the box office in its opening weekend.
According to Box Office Mojo, “1917” enjoyed a healthy $36.5 million domestic opening, knocking “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” from the number-one spot its had maintained since its debut in late December.
In second, “The Rise of Skywalker” brought in $15 million domestically in its fourth weekend, adding to a domestic tally to date of $478 million (and a worldwide total of $978 million).
Rounding out the weekend’s top five at the domestic box office: “Jumanji: The Next Level” took third place with $14 million, for a five-week total of $257 million; “Like A Boss” landed in fourth with an opening weekend of $10 million; and “Just Mercy” in fifth place, taking in $10 million in its third week of release.
