Phoebe Waller-Bridge Reveals Jennifer Lopez Inspired ‘Fleabag’ During Critics’ Choice Awards Speech

Phoebe Waller-Bridge just revealed one of her inspirations for “Fleabag” and it’s none other than Jennifer Lopez.

Accepting the award for Best Comedy Series for “Fleabag” during the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, the actress took a moment to give a shout out to the one and only Jennifer Lopez.

“This is a bit of a random shout-out,” Waller-Bridge said. “But you have no idea how you can accidentally inspire people just by doing your work, and somebody inspired this show in a way that you’ll never know, and that’s JLo.”

She continued: “I don’t know where she is, but I decided that the Priest’s favourite song was ‘Jenny from the Block,’ and it opened the entire character up for me. So, I don’t know where she is, but that’s really genuine, so thank you, thank you JLo.”

This was Waller-Bridge’s second win of the night as she also took home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. “Fleabag” and its creator also recently dominated at the Golden Globes, winning Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy.

Lopez was at the awards but it is unclear whether she was present for Waller-Bridge’s speech.
