The Oscars race is over for Adam Sandler but there’s at least one silver lining.
On Monday, the Academy revealed its nominees for the 2020 Oscars, and many movie buffs were disappointed to see the thriller “Uncut Gems” completely snubbed in all categories.
Reacting to the lack of nominations, Sandler tweeted the he can finally “stop wearing suits,” adding congratulations with his nominated friends, including his “Waterboy” co-star Kathy Bates.
Bates responded to Sandler by returning the love and calling him “da GOAT.”
Comedian Paul Scheer joked with directors the Safdie Brothers about sending one of the film’s hired goons to set the Academy voters straight.
Josh Gad also expressed his disappointment at the lack of love for “Uncut Gems”.
Some fans, meanwhile, are bringing up Sandler’s claim on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show that if he loses the Oscar he will have his revenge by making a really terrible film.
“If I don’t get it, I’m going to f**king come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay,” he said. “That’s how I get them.”
On Twitter, fans were planning to hold Sandler to that threat.
Sandler has picked up awards from other associations for his performance in the acclaimed film, including winning Best Actor at Sunday’s AARP Movies for Grownups Awards.
Meanwhile, Sandler’s “Gems” co-star Eric Bogosian tweeted his own reaction to the snub.
