Trevor Noah spoke about the Queen’s statement on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle taking a step back from the royals during Monday’s “The Daily Show”.
Noah slammed the British press for how they’ve treated Meghan over the years after the Queen held a meeting with Princes William, Harry, and Charles at her Sandringham home.
He shared, “Yes, the Queen summoned everyone to a private meeting at her royal country house.
“And everyone attended except Meghan Markle, who conference-called in. And I’ll be honest, I don’t blame Meghan for not going — because nothing good happens when white people invite you to the countryside.”
Noah also compared some articles showing how the press spoke about Kate Middleton to the headlines written about Meghan.
Noah said, referencing a Daily Express article criticizing Meghan’s love of avocados, “I mean, think about it. Prince Andrew’s over here having sleepovers at Jeffrey Epstein’s house, and the British press is like, ‘Meghan Markle ordered guacamole!'”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed last week that they were stepping back as senior royals and wanted to become financially independent.
They also said they wanted to split their time between Canada, where they spent the holidays, and the U.K.
The Queen said in a statement Monday: “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
