Meat Loaf is demanding restitution.
According to People, the 72-year-old Bat Out of Hell singer has filed a lawsuit against the Hyatt Regency at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in Texas, along with Texas Frightmare Weekend LLC.
In May 2019, Meat Loaf fell from a stage at Frightmare Weekend, claiming his injuries resulted in his being hospitalized for 42 days.
The complaint reads that as the singer walked onto the stage, he “put his foot down on part of the curtain that had nothing beneath it.
“There was no stage floor beneath his foot, his foot and leg went down into air, causing him to fall off the stage, resulting in serious injuries.”
Meat Loaf claims that he suffered injuries to his neck, collar bone, and shoulder.
The singer’s complaint claims the hotel “failed to do their job to provide a safe environment and ultimately Meat Loaf got seriously injured because of their failures,” adding that they were “negligent.”
“In setting up the stage, the Defendants hung curtains from a tall frame at the back edge of the stage. The curtains came past the bottom of the stage where participants were walking and hid where the stage ended,” the filing states. “Therefore, when viewing the stage from the participants’ standpoint, one would be unable to determine how much space they had while walking near the curtains before they would fall off the backside of the stage.”
The lawsuit comes after Meat Loaf was recently in the news for calling climate activist Greta Thunberg “brainwashed” over her views on the climate crisis.
