While some people may know Camila Morrone primarily for being the girlfriend of Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio, the 22-year-old actress is a rising star in her own right.

In fact, Morrone is one of the Wall Street Journal magazine‘s “10 biggest rising talents in Hollywood,” yet the “Mickey and the Bear” star admits that not all the attention paid to her as been positive.

Part of that has surrounded the 20-year-age difference between her and DiCaprio, and she tries to take it all in stride.

“More exposure leads to more judgement and negativity,” Morrone explains.

“It’s a little bit of a bummer because you’re really trying to do good work and be nice and be a good person, and in the meantime… people wish negative things upon you,” she adds.

However, Morrone says she refuses to let that negativity impact her. “It would never take away the joy of the craft that I get to do,” she adds.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Morrone addressed the controversy over the the between her and DiCaprio’s ages.

“There’s so many relationships in Hollywood — and in the history of the world — where people have large age gaps,” she said. “I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date.”

She also admitted to feeling frustration that her relationship with DiCaprio has been overshadowing the work she’s been doing as actress. “I think more and more now that people are seeing [my new film “Mickey and the Bear”], I’m slowly getting an identity outside of that,” she said.

“Which is frustrating, because I feel like there should always be an identity besides who you’re dating,” she added. “I understand the association, but I’m confident that will continue to slip away and be less of a conversation.”
