Awkwafina’s recent dramedy “The Farewell” had been receiving Oscar buzz, both for the lead performance of its star and for director Lulu Wang.

The buzz only grew when the 31-year-old comedian took home the Golden Globe in the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy category.

However, when the Oscar nominations were revealed on Monday morning, neither Awkwafina nor Wang received a nod; in fact, not a single female director was nominated in this year’s Best Director category.

During a Tuesday appearance at the Television Critics Association press tour to promote her new Comedy Central series “Nora From Queens”, Awkwafina addressed “The Farewell” being snubbed by the Academy.

As Entertainment Weekly reported, Awkwafina said that the attention the film has received already “feels like a win” to her.

“There were amazing performances this year,” she said of the 2020 Oscar nominations.

“They are all warranted, as they should have been,” she added. “But we can’t ignore movies that women helmed, including mine.”
