As drama surrounds Britain’s Royal Family after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s shock announcement they’re planning to step away from their royal duties, opinions about Meghan and Harry are all over the map.
One person who is firmly supporting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is Hugh Grant, who shared his opinion during a conversation with “Radio Andy” on SiriusXM.
Chatting with host Andy Cohen while he and co-stars Charlie Hunnam and Matthew McConaughey promote their new film “The Gentlemen”, Grant said he could definitely see Harry’s perspective on wanting to move outside the spotlight, particularly in light of the death of Princess Diana.
“I’m rather on Harry’s side, I have to say,” Grant, 59, told Cohen.
“The tabloid press effectively murdered his mother, now they’re tearing his wife to pieces,” he added. “I think, as a man, it’s his job to protect his family, so I’m with him.”
Last week, the couple issued a bombshell announcement, revealing they “have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
