Fans looking for a resolution to the cliffhanger at the end of “Watchmen” season one are probably out of luck.
That is because HBO is not interested in pursuing a second season of the superhero drama. The series received widespread critical and fan acclaim, so what is the issue? The issue is that show creator Damon Lindelof is not interested in a second season.
“It’s really in Damon’s thinking about what he wants to do,” HBO programming chief Casey Bloys told USA Today. “If there’s an idea that excited him about another season, another installment.”
“Maybe like a ‘Fargo,’ ‘True Detective’ (anthology) take on it, or if he wants to do something different altogether,” he continued. “We’re very proud of ‘Watchmen,’ but what I’m most interested in what Damon wants to do.”
Lindelof told the publication that he has told the story he wants to. He did give HBO his “blessing” to move forward with another creative mind, but HBO doesn’t see the appeal.
“It would be hard to imagine doing it without Damon involved in some way,” Bloys said.
