YouTube hosted its presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Saturday, with one of the announcements revealing that “death-defying magician” David Blaine will be the focus of an upcoming mystery project.
According to YouTube’s announcement, Blaine will be at the center of “an unprecedented live event” set to debut in the fall.
“Usually known for his dark and mysterious stunts, this experience will be lighter and brighter than you have ever seen Blaine before,” teases YouTube’s announcement.
While YouTube execs did not elaborate on what exactly Blaine’s event will entail, a brief clip was shown in which Blaine jumped out of an airplane, doing somersaults in mid-air as he plummeted.
Blaine made a surprise appearance during YouTube’s session, enlisting a reporter and Paris Hilton (who was on hand to promote her upcoming YouTube documentary “This Is Paris”) for one of trademark illusions.
Blaine began the trick by taking a needle and thread and literally sewing his lips shut, while a squeamish Hilton filmed the whole thing up close on a cellphone.
His mouth sufficiently sewed up, Blaine gestured at the reporter to pick a card, and show it to the audience, and then rip off the corner and hang on to it.
Eventually, Blaine handed the reporter a pair of scissors, gesturing for him to cut the thread so he could open his mouth — to reveal the original card with the corner torn off.
Interestingly enough, Blaine performed the same trick — sans Hilton — during a 2018 appearance on “The Tonight Show” — watch:
