Joaquin Phoenix is genuinely honoured to be nominated with his fellow actors.

At the 2020 SAG Awards on Sunday, the “Joker” star won the award for Best Actor, and he used his acceptance speech to shine a light on the other men nominated in the category.

Phoenix began by shouting out Leonardo DiCaprio, recalling that when he would go for auditions early in his career, “We would always lose to this one kid,” calling him “an inspiration.”

Addressing Christian Bale he said, “You commit to your roles in a way that I can only dream of. You never turn in a bad performance, it’s infuriating.”

Next, he called out Adam Driver, noting his “beautiful, nuanced, incredible, profound performances,” adding that his turn in “Marriage Story” was “devastating.”

Finally, he told Taron Egerton that his performance in “Rocketman” was “beautiful” and added, “I can’t wait to see what else you do.”

Before ending his speech, Phoenix added, “Really, I’m standing on the shoulders of my favourite actor, Heath Ledger.”
