The world has lost a true icon, Mr. Peanut.

Planters announced on Wednesday that Mr. Peanut, their deliciously handsome longtime mascot, has died. Don’t let his peanut-y exterior fool you, the man was 104-years-old!

“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that Mr. Peanut has died at 104,” The Estate of Mr. Peanut tweeted. “In the ultimate selfless act, he sacrificed himself to save his friends when they needed him most. Please pay your respects with #RIPeanut.”

Mr. Peanut’s untimely passing was captured in a Planters Super Bowl 2020 ad. Mr. Peanut was driving to the big game in his NUTmobile along with Matt Walsh and Wesley Snipes. A rogue Armadillo on the road forced the NUTmobile off the road.

The three friends found themselves hanging off a branch, at which point Mr. Peanut sacrificed himself in order to save Walsh and Snipes.

A broadcast of Mr. Peanut’s funeral will air during the third quarter of Super Bowl 2020.
