When Blake Shelton was named People‘s Sexiest Man Alive back in 2017, not everyone agreed with the choice — including Shelton himself.

In an excerpt from an upcoming CBS Grammy special hosted by Gayle King (reported by People), Shelton, 43, is joined by girlfriend Gwen Stefani, 50, as they sit down with the “CBS This Morning” co-host for a joint interview.

During the chat, Shelton jokes about the moment he discovered that People had selected him to be the subject of that year’s Sexiest Man Alive issue.

“I remember I called my manager, he said, ‘They want to put you as the Sexiest Man Alive,’” recalls Shelton. “And I’m like, ‘Wh— what?!”

Shelton correctly predicted that “there’s gonna be blowback and hate,” but he admits he kind of shared the same opinion.

“But I remember, I was like, ‘Man, they’re right.’ Like, I don’t disagree with any of this that I’m hearin’,” he joked.
