A “Captain Marvel” sequel is reportedly in the works.
According to Variety, Marvel Studios has officially placed a sequel in development, following the massive success of the Brie Larson-starring superhero flick.
Variety is reporting the the studio is in “final negotiations” with Marvel writer Megan McDonnell to write the screenplay for the sequel to “Captain Marvel”, which raked in $1.13 billion at the box office worldwide.
McDonnell, notes Variety, has been working on the upcoming Disney+ series “WandaVision”.
While Disney has confirmed that the “Captain Marvel” sequel is in development, there’s no word yet on either a title or release date.
News of a sequel shouldn’t come as a surprise given the phenomenal box-office receipts, the positive reviews and the character’s game-changing appearance in “Avengers: Endgame”.
While promoting the film, Larson appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and revealed one of the most difficult things about the role was “how to make a cool face.”
As she explained, coming up with the just-right superhero expression is no easy task when there’s an entire crew watching you do it.
“They’re usually laughing at you while you’re trying to find it, because it’s hard,” she admitted. “At least, it was for me. I would just bust up laughing.”
