The first trailer for “The Last Thing He Wanted” has dropped online ahead of the film’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival.
Based on Joan Didion’s 1996 novel of the same name, the political thriller stars Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck, Rosie Perez, and Willem Dafoe.
Directed by Dee Rees (“Mudbound”), Hathaway is Elena McMahon, a veteran Washington, D.C., journalist who unwittingly gets mixed up in the very story she’s trying to break when she runs a guilt-propelled errand for her dying father (Dafoe). Inheriting his position as a covert arms dealer for the U.S. government in Central America, McMahon must contend with spies, explosives, and government officials (Affleck) bent on stopping her in her tracks as she navigates her dangerous new world.
The movie will arrive on Netflix on February 21.
