The shocking death of Kobe Bryant touched the Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

The night’s host Alicia Keys took the stage to offer words of tribute to Bryant, along with a performance with Boyz II Men of the classic “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday”.

“We’re all feeling crazy sadness right now. Earlier today Los Angeles, America, and the whole wide world lost a hero. And we’re literally standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built,” Keys said before singing the tribute.

A spotlight was also shone on Bryant’s retired number 24 jersey.

Opening the show, Lizzo also paid tribute to Bryant with a dedication to him before her performance.

The Grammys is being held at the Staples Center, which was Bryant’s home court when he played for the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers.

Recording Academy interim CEO and board chair Harvey Mason Jr. held a moment of silence for Bryant at the 2020 Grammy Awards’ premiere ceremony earlier on Sunday.

“Since we are in his house I would ask you to join me in a moment of silence,” he said.
