The legacy of Nipsey Hussle was celebrated at the 2020 Grammys and the Twitterverse was moved.
Viewers of Sunday’s awards show flocked online to share their thoughts about the tribute as director Ava DuVernay introduced the memorial performance.
“Tonight we celebrate the enduring memory of an artist and a leader who made brave, brilliant strides to unite this community here in Los Angeles and around the world,” DuVernay said.
Meek Mill, Roddy Ricch, YG and Hussle’s band subsequently took to the stage. Hussle and Ricch won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance earlier in the evening for their “Racks in the Middle” collaboration with Hit-Boy.
They were soon followed by DJ Khaled and John Legend. Khaled and Legend performed their Hussle collaboration “Higher”.
The Grammys venue has a special place in Hussle’s legacy. His family, friends, and fans filled the Staples Center on April 11 for his memorial service.
