All’s well for rock icon Lou Reed who underwent a successful liver transplant last month. The songwriter, poet, and vocalist with the legendary The Velvet Underground, is now recovering well according to his wife Laurie Anderson,
“It’s as serious as it gets. He was dying. You don’t get it for fun,”; Anderson said in an interview with The Times.
Lou, who was still playing concerts at 71, was forced to cancel a number of his gigs in order to undergo surgery in Cleveland, OH.
“I don’t think he’ll ever totally recover from this, but he’ll certainly be back to doing [things] in a few months. He’s already working and doing t’ai chi. I’m very happy. It’s a new life for him,”; said Anderson.
Lou, who has discussed his past with alochol and drugs, was co-founder of the influential ’60s group The Velvet Underground. Most recently, he collaborated with heavy metal band, Metallic.
