Hitting theatres in 2015, 20th Century Fox has confirmed Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman for the blockbuster’s long-awaited sequel.
The big news was revealed by the movie’s director, Roland Emmerich, during a White House Down Q&A at New York’s Soho Apple store location.
Roland also disclosed that fans could expect some new faces, with only half of all characters returning for the sequel. “We’re not doing a total reboot, we’re doing something that’s totally unusual,”; he revealed to Complex Magazine. “I think some aliens will be back.”;
Die-hard fans of the original will be disappointed to learn that Will Smith, aka Captain Steven Hiller, will also be skipping part two. In the last two decades, Will has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, and is now “too expensive,”; Roland shared. “He’d also be too much of a marquee name […] It would be too much.”;
Independence Day 2 opens on July 3, 2015, nearly twenty years after the original film was released
