A great Canadian union took place today as actress Elisha Cuthbert and the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Dion Phaneuf married at St. James Catholic Church in Summerfield, Prince Edward Island reports the Journal Pioneer. We are waiting to hear details from the bride’s camp.
Elisha, best known for her TV and movie career (Happy Endings, 24, The Girl Next Door) and the NHL captain have dated since 2008 and have been engaged since December of 2012. Despite their A-lister standing, they wanted a private affair and took measures to thwart the prying eyes of paparazzi and possible gatecrashers.
The province holds a special place in the couple’s hearts, even though they are both originally from Alberta (the bride from Calgary and the groom from Edmonton). Dion’s parents are from well-known families in PEI and he owns a large waterfront property in nearby New London where the couple enjoys downtime during the summers.
She also tweeted about some of the guests in attendance including Mike Komisarek, Ben Scrivens, John-Michael Liles, and James Reimer. Earlier in the day, violinist Kinley Dowling posted this tweet in anticipation:
