Today Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, sent their well wishes to those affected by the train disaster in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec and the Alberta floods.

The Governor General of Canada shared the statement, which read: “I wanted you to know how deeply my wife and I feel for the people of the Québécois community of Lac-Mégantic who are suffering from the appalling disaster which has engulfed their town. We can only begin to imagine what they are going through and our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by such a dreadful tragedy. I pray you will be able to convey our feelings of profound concern to the Premier of Quebec and the people of the province.”;

The Prince of Wales went on to applaud Calgary for going ahead with the Stampede, despite the devastation: “Coming so soon after the devastating floods which inundated Alberta last month, this has been a most testing time for Canadians and our thoughts and sympathy are very much with the Canadian people. However, seeing the quite extraordinary efforts which have led to the Calgary Stampede being opened on time this weekend, it is only too clear how courageous and resourceful Canadians are and we have nothing but the greatest admiration for such determination and resilience in the face of terrible adversity.”

Meanwhile, there is no word on when the next royal visit to Canada will take place, but it looks like Prince William and Duchess Kate could be showing off their little one – set to be born anytime – abroad in 2014.

Us Weekly reports that the parents-to-be will be taking an official Royal Tour to Australia and New Zealand next year. An insider tells the magazine that this follows in the footsteps of Wills’ late mother, Princess Diana, who took him on a trip Down Under when he was just 9-months-old in 1983.

Canadian royal baby watchers sure hope Wills and Kate can squeeze Canada into their agenda at some point in 2014 as well.
