Only at Comic-Con! Everyone who thought that The Hunger Games was going to be the big hit of the day at Comic-Con was wrong. About an hour before the press conference for The Wolverine, whispers started that the “secret conference”; of the day was going to unite the entire cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past on one stage and little did we know those whispers would turn into roars from both the press conference crowd and Hall H.
For movie lovers, and fan boys and girls alike seeing Halle Berry, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Omar Sy, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore take the stage with director Bryan Singer, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult was in a word: exhilarating.
The cast of “X-Men: Days of Future Past”; assemble for a group shot after the press conference at Comic-Con.
Newcomers to the X-Men family, Peter Dinklage and Evan Peters confirmed their roles as Bolivar Trask and Quicksilver respectively, with Evan describing his character, “He talks quick, he moves quick, everybody is very slow compared to him. He’s always at an ATM waiting for the bastard in front of him to finish.”; To which Michael Fassbender – who plays his father in the film and a young Magneto, adds “he’s got excellent genes.”;
During both the Hall H panel and the press conference the cast shared there would be a lot of 70s garb, with James saying “there is a lot of brown suits, with psychedelic shirts.”; Meanwhile Michael and Ian quarrelled over Magneto’s signature helmet, with the sassy Sir McKellen leaving the press conference blushing after a suggestive remark about “discussing helmets later”; with the Shame star.
And speaking of costumes for the long running Marvel movie franchise, when asked about the perils of having one star clad in nothing more than paint and a little latex, and the other pregnant, Jennifer Lawrence let her trademark wit show saying, “[Halle Berry]’s pregnant, I’m naked, come see the film.”; Adding that this time around Mystique is much less innocent, and much more “mutant and proud.”;
Another question asked in both panels was out of the assembled X-Men cast, which character, other than their own, would they want to play? Hugh Jackman responded by throwing “Storm”; in front of every other word in his long winded and very vague answer, and later in Hall H, Patrick Stewart quipped, “I would like to play any female character in any X-Men movie, because then I would have a chance of winning an Academy Award.”; Making reference to Oscar winners Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence and Anna Paquin.
And it seems that it wasn’t just the fans who delighted in seeing the cast together for the first time, after the panels, director Bryan Singer tweeted:
That was awesome! Thanks fans!!! #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast pic.twitter.com/BepEUxLAu4
