Forget about “Girl Power’. This time it’s a Woman’s World.
Cher, the iconic 67 year-old singer, actress, and fashion icon is back big time with her first musical release in 12 years. Woman’s World is an instantly recognizable Cher dancefloor mover, with hints of 1990’s house music and thick beats driving the new track.
The ode to female empowerment is accompanied by a video of non-stop moving and shaking with Cher taking centre stage. The dancefloor diva dons her trademark one-of-a-kind wigs (including one made of newspaper), and becomes split-screened with bodies of other women of varying ages and races.
The new single will be the first release from Cher’s upcoming album Closer To The Truth. The album will be the follow-up to her mega-seller, 2001’s Living Proof. While not as immediately ear-wormy as her past singles If I Could Turn Back Time and Believe, the track is sure to become a mainstay of club DJs everywhere.
Whether you like Cher or can leave her, you have to admire the lady’s accomplishments. She has been dropping chart toppers since the early 1960’s when she and ex-husband Sonny Bono released the ever-present I Got You Babe, she is an Academy Award winning actress, and a Las Vegas superstar, consistently selling out a three-year residency at the 4,300-seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
If the success of her offspring Katy Perry and Lady Gaga is any indication, Cher is correct. It is definitely a Woman’s World.
