Cameron Diaz’s swank West Village apartment is a space fit for a movie star! The home covers the October issue of Elle Decor, on newsstands September 10. The large pre-war apartment oozes pure luxury and will have you craving a home reno of your own once you’ve flipped through the photoshoot.
To design and decorate the space she chose interior designer Kelly Wearstler whose client list includes none other than Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale. Other recent projects of hers include the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica and Miami’s The Tides Hotel. A superstar designer for a blockbuster actress — a match made in design heaven!
One can only marvel at the jewel like decor that leaves no detail or inch behind. The space, which is decorated with burnished metals and lustrous minerals, is “a bit like living in a silk-lined jewelry box,” Cameron said of her humble abode. “The palette reflects Cameron herself—it’s innately sexy without being overly flashy,”; Kelly shared.
“I blame my love of sparkly, shiny things on my Cuban roots,”; said Cameron of her flashy taste. But despite the multiple metallic flashes throughout, the apartment still manages to be a welcoming space. A feeling that was very important to Cameron. “I also wanted a place that felt very homey, very tactile. Kelly is unparalleled when it comes to striking that mix.”;
The project brought Cameron and Kelly together, and from it the pair seem to have created a genuine friendship. When talking about Cameron’s excellent taste, Kelly admitted that the actress “understands how colors work together and why quality pieces make rooms special.”
“I learn new things with every client, but Cameron taught me to be more sensitive to the hand of fabrics and textiles. She was so involved in every step, every choice, that I’, delighted by how well the place represents her.”
And now that the project is over, what will they miss most about working together? “I’m really going to miss those four-hour-long meetings with Kelly. I got to look at, touch, and talk about beautiful things,” Cameron admitted.
