Superstar couple Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady escape their crazy worlds by retreating to their eco-conscious Los Angeles mansion overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The pair opened up the breathtaking home to Architectural Digest magazine for its October issue.

“I want to live in a place that feels like a real home, where you can put your feet up on the couch and just relax,” Gisele told the magazine.

Six years ago, the east-coast couple were lured by the sunshine and otherwise laid back vibe of California life during their NFL off-season visits to the U.S. state. They immediately settled on a idyllic peace of land overlooking the Pacific Ocean and started to dream up the perfect family home. “Gisele and I have eight sisters between us, and there are lots of kids. We built this house as a sanctuary for our family—a place where we can enjoy being together,” said Tom.

They “decided to start from scratch,” Tom explained, and planted new roots for their family in the sunshine state. The couple has a son Benjamin and a daughter Vivian. Tom also shares another son, John, with his former girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan.

Tom and Gisele were looking for a “comfortable house, not a style statement,” and enlisted the help of architect Richard Landry and interior designer Joan Behnke. Together, the design duo successfully brought the couple’s vision to life. “We knew Richard and Joan could take us where we wanted to go without imposing a signature look,”; Tom told the mag.

The world’s highest paid model and global ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme also wanted the home to be as eco-friendly as possible. “From the beginning we asked everyone involved in the design and construction, ‘How can we make it as sustainable as possible?'” Gisele asked before construction began. The home gets its green stamp of approval for involving as many recycled components as possible.  Energy and water conservation systems were built-in during construction, and solar panels were installed as well.
