Everyone in media wanted to secure that first interview with new papa, Prince William, but it was Max Foster who scored the in-demand interview. In his one-hour documentary, Prince William’s Passion: New Hope, New Father, premiering September 15 on CNN, the anchor tells Parade.com viewers will get a glimpse into the prince’s “True Character”;.
So how did Max beat out out all the heavyweights in entertainment? “I covered the royal wedding, and after that, I was appointed royal correspondent, and shortly after that, I started bidding for interviews,”; he reveals. “I very quickly focused in on William, because the more I met him, the more I realized people hadn’t really seen his character — his true character. I think that’s because he’s so wary and suspicious of the media.”;
“Conservation in Africa was the thing he got most animated about and was most passionate about, so I started bidding to interview him about African conservation to get a real sense of his character, but it’s a very long process when you bid for these big interviews,”; says Max. Yes timing had everything to do with his big get, says Max, who waited two years to interview the prince.
“I got him at a time when he wanted to talk about African conservation – this is the absolute timing! As a journalist, I couldn’t have gone into the interview and not asked about Prince George, so they were expecting that and they were comfortable with me doing it,”; he says.
In the upcoming special, Wills recalls how his love for Africa was born and shares how his late mother Princess Diana’s global efforts inspired him when he was a child: “She would come back with all these stories and full of excitement and just passion for what she had been doing. And I sort of used to sit there, quite sort of a surprised little boy at the time, taking it all in.”
We will also see footage of Will and Kate’s first public appearance together since the birth of their son at the Tusk Conservation Awards, a beloved organization of the prince’s that funds development programs in Africa.
