Kevin James has been plenty busy on the big screen, but the former King of Queens star is reportedly looking at making a TV comeback as star of a potential new sitcom.
That’s the word from Deadline.com, which is reporting that Kevin recently signed an overall development deal with Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury which will see him star in and executive produce a multi-camera comedy under the same “10/90″ structure that led to Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management.
Under the deal, James would produce 10 episodes of an as-yet-to-be-developed sitcom, which would go straight to series. If these episodes meet a certain ratings threshold, 90 more episodes will be ordered and the entire series will then be sold into syndication.
In addition to Anger Management, Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury are also developing similarly structured sitcoms for Kelsey Grammer, Martin Lawrence and George Lopez, whose upcoming sitcom, Saint George, is currently in production.
The deal is still in the early stages, and no concept has yet been developed. It’s also not yet known whether Kevin, who co-wrote many of his hit big-screen comedies — including Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Here Comes the Boom — will be doing any writing on the show, although he will reportedly be “closely involved creatively.”;
