In National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, beleaguered suburbanite Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) took his holiday decorating seriously, but he’ll probably seem like a lightweight compared to the hardcore crew who’ll compete in ABC’s upcoming Christmas-decorating reality competition.
According to TVLine, the network has placed an order for Lights, Camera, Christmas!, a new reality show in which 16 families from throughout the U.S. compete to create the most elaborate, outlandish Christmas display, with the winning family receiving a $50,000 grand prize.
The families will be selected via a nationwide search, based on past years’ holiday displays, with four families competing against each other each week after being given 21 days to make their homes more Christmasy than the North Pole.
The final four will then be flown to a “surprise location” for the grand finale, at which point a winner will be chosen.
No air date has been set, but it’s a pretty safe bet to assume Lights, Camera, Christmas! should be coming to TV screens sometime this December.
